Beeleevnamore Mountain

The walk up Beeleevnamore Mountain rewards you with proper views across Mid Ulster - it's the sort of peak that doesn't look like much from the car park but opens up once you're halfway up. Located near Cookstown, this is serious walking country, not a casual stroll, though nothing that'll have you regretting breakfast either.

You're looking at an hour or so to the summit depending on fitness and how many times you stop to catch your breath. The landscape around here is raw and honest - moorland, wind, and the kind of light that changes every ten minutes. On a clear day you can see properly far. On a grey day, which is most days, it's atmospheric in that way Irish hills do so well.

Walkers will get the most from this. Kids might find it a bit of a trudge unless they're the outdoor type already. Bring proper boots - the ground can be boggy and unforgiving, especially after rain. There's no café, no visitor centre, no infrastructure at all really, which is rather the point.

If you're staying at Sperrinview Glamping just down the road, this makes a cracking afternoon outing. It's the sort of place you fit around other activities rather than drive hours to reach, but for serious walkers staying in the area it's absolutely worth the detour. Free to walk, naturally. Allow two hours all in.
