Beech Wood

A proper Norfolk woodland that actually delivers on the promise of peace and quiet. Beech Wood sits just east of King's Lynn, and it's the sort of place where you can properly disappear for an hour without seeing another soul - which, frankly, is harder to come by than it should be.

The trees are mature and tall, creating that cathedral-like atmosphere that beech woods do so well. There's decent underfoot coverage - mostly leaf litter and moss - so it's forgiving on the legs even if you're not a keen rambler. Paths wind through without being overly obvious, which means you're not constantly following the same route as everyone else. It's genuinely woodland, not a manicured country estate.

Walkers will get the most from this. Kids might find it engaging for thirty minutes or so, depending on their patience for "trees and more trees", though there's something to be said for letting them loose in a proper forest. Birdwatchers and photographers will clock straight away that this is worth the detour. Spring is when the wood really sings - bluebells if you time it right, though you'll need to check locally for when they're actually out.

It's free to access and you can spend as long as you want. Twenty minutes to an hour is realistic depending on how far you fancy walking. Given its proximity to Parkdean Resorts Manor Park and Searles Leisure Resort - both under 3.5 miles away - it makes a cracking morning or late afternoon break from holiday park life. No need to book, no facilities, just trees.
