Beach Creative CIC

Beach Creative is a working community arts space tucked into Whitstable's seafront, the sort of place you stumble upon while wandering and think: right, what's this then? It's not a traditional attraction with gift shops and audio guides. Instead, you get a proper creative hub where local artists and makers actually work, and visitors can watch them at it or join in with workshops and sessions.

The setup is refreshingly unpretentious. You might find printmakers, ceramicists, or painters doing their thing in the studio space, and you're welcome to pop in, have a look around, and chat to people about what they're making. There's usually something on the go - whether that's a drop-in painting class, a ceramics session, or an exhibition from emerging artists. It's the kind of place that appeals to anyone with a creative bent, or frankly, anyone who prefers real human interaction to queuing for postcards.

Timing-wise, allow an hour if you're just browsing, longer if you fancy actually having a go at something. Head down when the weather's decent and combine it with a walk along Whitstable's shingle beach - it's two minutes away. The nearby Seaview Holiday Park is decent enough for families, though if you want somewhere properly rated, Nethergong Camping about four miles out does excellent reviews and feels less crammed in.

It's free to look around, though sessions and workshops cost a few quid. Call ahead to check what's on - opening hours vary depending on what the team's up to.
