The Wildart Trail

A walking trail that winds through woodland and open countryside between Whitstable and Canterbury, the Wildart Trail is less a single attraction and more a proper ramble through Kent's quieter corners. You'll pass through mixed woodland, along field edges, and if you're lucky, spot some actual wildlife - birds mostly, the occasional deer if you're early enough. The trail itself is marked out, though nothing fancy, and it's free to access whenever you fancy it.

Walkers will get the most from this one, honestly. It's not dramatic countryside - no chalk cliffs or dramatic vistas - but it's genuine Kent, the sort of landscape that's been here for centuries. Families with energetic kids will find it decent enough for a half-day out, though there's no specific visitor infrastructure, no café, no facilities that I'm aware of. Allow two to three hours if you're doing the full loop and not rushing.

What makes it work for a holiday based at Seaview or Seasalter is that it gets you away from the seaside crowds without needing a car journey. Head inland from Whitstable and you're into proper walking country within minutes. Pair it with a morning at the beach and you've got a solid day sorted. It won't be the highlight of your trip, but it's the sort of walk that reminds you why you came to Kent in the first place - green, quiet, and a world away from the usual tourist tick-list.
