Badsey Lane Nature Reserve

Just outside Evesham, this modest strip of woodland and grassland won't set your world alight, but it's a decent spot for a gentle walk when you need a break from holiday park life. The reserve runs along what was once railway land, creating a long, narrow corridor of mixed habitat that's particularly good for butterflies in summer.

Birdwatchers will find the usual suspects - wrens, robins, the odd kestrel - while the meadow areas come alive with wildflowers from May onwards. It's free to wander, though don't expect marked trails or visitor facilities. The paths can get muddy after rain, so proper footwear is sensible.

Families staying at nearby Broadway Caravan and Motorhome Club Campsite or Bredon-Vale Caravan and Camping will find it handy for burning off energy, though restless teenagers might find it a bit tame. Allow an hour for a proper explore, though you could easily stretch it to two if you're into wildlife photography.

The reserve works well as part of a Vale of Evesham exploration, especially combined with the town's abbey ruins. It's not a destination in itself, but rather a pleasant diversion when you fancy some fresh air between the more touristy bits of Worcestershire.
