Ayrmer Cove Pikes

The twin rock formations jutting out of Ayrmer Cove are exactly the sort of geological oddity that makes the South Devon coastline worth exploring on foot. You get proper views across Start Bay from here, and on a clear day the walk down from the clifftop villages near Kingsbridge feels genuinely worth the effort. These aren't massive peaks - more dramatic rock stacks, really - but they're distinctive enough to spot from miles along the coast path.

It's a fairly straightforward coastal walk to reach them, though the approach depends on where you start from. The rocks themselves don't take long to examine once you're there; perhaps 20 minutes if you're taking photos and actually looking at the geology rather than just snapping and moving on. Families with decent walkers will manage it fine, though the cliffs mean you need to watch younger kids carefully. History buffs won't find much to chew on here - these are primarily a landscape feature rather than a cultural attraction - but if you're after a proper stretch of legs with good views, it delivers.

The real draw is context. If you're camping at South Devon Camping Lower Terawhiti Farm or one of the other excellent sites dotted around the area, Ayrmer Cove fits nicely into a longer coastal ramble rather than as a destination in itself. Combine it with the wider Start Bay walks and you've got a decent half-day out. Worth the detour if you're in Kingsbridge anyway; wouldn't plan a trip specifically around it.
