Austin Lodge Golf Club (closed 2014)

Austin Lodge Golf Club shut up shop a decade ago, and there's not much left to see now - just overgrown fairways and a clubhouse that's seen better days. It's one of those places that feels a bit melancholy when you drive past, especially if you remember playing there before 2014.

For anyone with a soft spot for golf history around Sevenoaks, it's worth a nostalgic look if you're passing through, but there's no reason to make a special trip. The course itself has long since gone to seed, and you won't find any tee times or a functioning bar these days.

If you're staying at Gatehouse Wood Country Park just down the road - a solid spot with proper woodland walks - you'd be better off exploring the actual courses that are still operating in Kent rather than hunting for the ghost of Austin Lodge. The park itself is only six miles away and worth a night or two if you like that green space vibe.

The closure was typical of smaller golf clubs struggling post-2008, and this one couldn't quite make it stick. Unless you've got a specific reason to chase this particular defunct course, your time would be better spent at any number of thriving clubs within reach of the Sevenoaks area.
