Atherstone Golf Club

The course sits just outside Atherstone proper, a proper 18-hole layout that's been going since the early 1900s. It's a members' club primarily, though visitors can usually get a round if they ring ahead and have a handicap certificate. The terrain rolls through classic Midlands countryside - nothing dramatic, but pleasant enough with mature trees and a few water hazards to keep you honest. Expect to spend four hours on the course if you're an average player.

This is squarely for golfers. If you're not swinging clubs, there's not much reason to visit. That said, it's a decent social venue with a clubhouse that does food and drinks, so partners can tag along and kill time while you play. The membership setup means it maintains itself well - greens are kept in good nick, and the pace of play tends to be civilized.

For caravan holidays in the area, it works as a nice distraction. Atherstone Stables sits less than two miles away, making it genuinely accessible if you've got golf in your blood. Lime Tree and Nightingales are similar distances, both workable. If your crew isn't all golfers, you're probably better off using the park as a base for exploring Leicestershire's proper attractions rather than spending a whole day here.

Ring before you visit - visitor rates and availability change with the season and member bookings. Weekdays tend to be easier than weekends if you've got flexibility.
