The lorikeets at Twycross Zoo aren't behind glass - they're on your shoulder, nibbling your hair, squawking at your watch. Lorikeet Landing is the zoo's interactive enclosure where these brilliant parrots land on visitors, feed from cups of nectar you're handed, and generally cause mild chaos. It's loud, it's messy, it's genuinely brilliant.

You'll spend twenty minutes or so in here, and it's the sort of thing kids remember for years - though fair warning, the birds are unpredictable and not always gentle. If your children spook easily or dislike being grabbed, it might be less fun than you'd hoped. Adults find it entertaining too, especially if you're not a regular zoo-goer. The novelty of having a lorikeet land on your head doesn't wear off quickly.

Twycross Zoo sits between Atherstone and Market Bosworth, and Lorikeet Landing is one of several interactive experiences dotted through the grounds. You'll need to factor this in as part of a wider zoo visit, not a standalone trip. Admission covers the lot, though I'd check current prices before heading over.

If you're camping at one of the nearby sites - New Forest View and Fire & Stars are closest at just over three miles - this makes for a solid half-day outing. Bosworth Lakeside is worth considering too if you want something a bit more upmarket. The zoo works as a rainy-day plan or a quieter alternative to busier attractions in the Midlands.
