Ashbourne Dog Field

Dog Field is exactly what it sounds like - a proper off-lead space on the edge of Ashbourne where your dog can actually run about without you having a breakdown. It's a working bit of common land, nothing fancy, just open ground where dogs get to be dogs and owners get to stand around chatting while their pets do laps.

The appeal is straightforward. If you're staying at one of the nearby holiday parks - Sandybrook Lodges is barely a mile away, or Callow Top and Ashbourne Heights are close by - you'll want somewhere to tire your dog out without a lead on. This is it. You get space, you get freedom, and you get the kind of chaos that comes with ten dogs of different sizes all running in different directions. Kids find it entertaining enough for twenty minutes, sometimes longer if they're the type to throw a ball around.

There's no visitor infrastructure to speak of. No café, no facilities that we know of, no entrance fee. You just show up. Go early if you want a quieter session, though "quiet" is relative when you've got springer spaniels bouncing off each other. The field is functional rather than scenic, but that's rather the point - it's about what your dog gets out of it, not Instagram angles.

It slots neatly into a Derbyshire park holiday. Combine it with Carsington Water Caravan Park three miles south if you want somewhere proper to stay, then use Dog Field as your daily dog-running break before heading out to the Peak District proper.
