You'll find Artsense tucked away near Goole in North Yorkshire - a proper gallery space that punches above its weight for a market town location. It's the sort of place that rewards a bit of poking around; contemporary art and craft exhibitions rotate through, so what's on when you visit depends entirely on timing, but there's usually something interesting happening on the walls.

The gallery appeals most to serious art types and anyone after something quieter than the usual tourist circuits. It's not a day-long destination - an hour or so covers it comfortably - but if you're staying nearby at Apple Blossom Caravan and Camping just down the road, it makes for a low-key morning outing when the weather isn't cooperating.

Goole itself is an old inland port with a bit of working-class character, so Artsense sits in a real community rather than a prettified heritage bubble. That's either brilliant or not your cup of tea, depending on whether you fancy authentic over polished. The admission is free (or it has been historically), though it's worth checking ahead as these things change.
