Arlick Hill

The walk up Arlick Hill isn't long, but it's steep enough to make you work for the view. Once you're at the top though, you get proper panoramic vistas across Fife that justify the huffing and puffing on the way up. On a clear day you can see right across to the Ochil Hills and beyond - the kind of perspective that makes you realise how much landscape is packed into this corner of Scotland.

This is walkers' territory, really. Families with younger kids might find the climb a bit much, and there's not a great deal to do once you're up there except sit, eat a sandwich, and admire the view. But if you're staying at one of the nearby glamping spots like Meadow View or Fossoway Cabins, it's a cracking half-day outing. Perth's close enough if you need a proper coffee before or after, which you might.

Allow a couple of hours for the round trip, depending on your pace. The ground can be boggy in places, particularly after rain, so decent boots matter. Free to visit, naturally - it's just a hill. Sunrise or late afternoon light gives you the best photos, and you'll have far fewer people up there if you go early or towards dusk. It's not a destination in itself, but as part of a broader walking holiday in the area, it punches above its weight. The Tay Valley walking routes nearby offer something similar if the weather turns sour.
