Amerside Law Hill Plantation

A coniferous forest planted across a modest Northumberland hillside, Amerside Law offers straightforward woodland walking rather than anything fancy. The plantation sits just a few miles south of Belford, tucked into rolling countryside that doesn't announce itself much. You get access to forestry tracks winding through rows of conifers - Douglas firs and spruces mostly - with limited views until you reach the higher ground. It's the sort of place where the walking matters more than any single destination.

The real appeal here is how quiet it is. Families with young walkers will find the tracks manageable enough, though there's not much to do once you've climbed through the trees except turn around. A decent outing on a dry day, less compelling when it's wet underfoot and the conifers drip relentlessly. Allow a couple of hours maximum unless you're serious about distance.

Stay based at South Meadows Caravan Park or Budle Bay Campsite near Belford and you can string this together with walks around the Northumberland coast or rougher moorland hikes. On its own, Amerside Law doesn't warrant a special journey - it's functional woodland, good for a leg-stretch between other activities rather than a destination in itself. Go if you're camped locally and the weather's decent. Skip it if you're after something with actual views or interesting features.
