About Allt Lom
You're looking at roughly 45 minutes to an hour to the summit depending on your fitness. The climb is steady and unrelenting rather than technical, with views opening out across the valley the higher you push. On a clear day you can see right across the Beacons. On a grey one - and there will be grey ones - it's still a decent walk through proper Welsh moorland.
Historically minded types won't find much up here, but walkers absolutely will. It's the kind of peak that appeals to families who want their kids to summit something real, or hikers basing themselves around Brecon for a week of easier Beacons walking. If you're staying at one of the local glamping spots - 68 Degrees West Glamping, Cefn Cantref, or Toad & Snail are all within striking distance - it makes a satisfying half-day without dominating your schedule.
The main consideration is weather. Wind funnels through here something fierce, so check the forecast. Summer is obvious but spring and autumn work just as well, arguably better since you'll have the hills more to yourself.
It's not the spectacular photogenic peak that draws crowds, which rather makes it worth doing.
