Allt Llanerchaeron

Rolling hills stretch for miles in every direction from this modest summit, just a few miles inland from Llanarth. Allt Llanerchaeron won't challenge serious peak baggers - it's more of a gentle rise than a proper mountain - but the views across Ceredigion's green patchwork countryside make it well worth the relatively easy climb.

Families with older children will find the walk manageable, though don't expect marked trails or fancy facilities. This is proper Welsh countryside at its most unspoilt - sheep, stone walls, and the sort of peace that makes you remember why you came to West Wales in the first place. On clear days you can spot the coast from the top.

Expect to spend a couple of hours up and back, depending on your route and how long you linger at the summit. The ground can be boggy after rain, so decent boots are essential. Early morning or late afternoon light shows off the surrounding valleys at their best.

It's a cracking addition to a holiday based at one of the nearby parks like Aeron Coast or Wide Horizons. After a day on the beach at New Quay or exploring Aberaeron's harbour, this little peak offers a different perspective on the area - literally and figuratively. Not spectacular, but satisfying in that quiet Welsh way.
