Allt Llan-gwrdu

The woodland at Allt Llan-gwrdu sits just inland from Cardigan, a proper patch of mixed forest that fills the gap between a coastal break and exploring the Teifi Valley proper. You're looking at a fairly intimate woodland walk rather than anything grand - the sort of place where you can actually hear the stream running through it, not just guess it's there somewhere.

What makes it worthwhile is the accessibility. It's genuinely close to Cardigan town centre, so if you've got restless legs after a morning browsing the high street or wandering down to the river, this scratches that itch without requiring a drive inland. The walking is gentle enough that older walkers or families with young kids won't be grinding through it, but there's enough incline to feel like you've actually moved about.

The forest itself is fairly typical of West Wales - a mix of oak and conifer, damp underfoot after rain which it frequently is in Ceredigion, and the whole thing has that quiet, slightly mossy feel that passes for dramatic in these parts. It's not the Lake District. But if you're camped at Mwnt Camping or Llety Caravan Park nearby and the weather's done that Welsh thing where it's damp but not quite raining, it's a decent enough option.

Allow an hour or so depending on how slowly you move. There's no admission charge that I'm aware of, just turn up and walk. Visit on a weekday morning if you can - you'll have the place to yourself, which rather improves the experience.
