Allt Ceiliog

The forest floor here is thick with moss and last season's leaves, the kind of woodland that feels properly alive. Allt Ceiliog is a small but genuine woodland walk in Ceredigion, tucked inland from Cardigan, where the trees create a green tunnel and the air smells of damp earth and pine. You're walking through native woodland - oak, ash, hazel - the sort of landscape that would have covered much of West Wales centuries ago.

It's the kind of place that rewards a slow pace. There's no grand viewpoint or visitor centre, just paths that wind through the trees and stream-side sections where you might spot dippers or hear the water working its way downhill. Most people manage a decent walk here in an hour to ninety minutes, though you can linger longer if you're after the quiet. Families with young kids will find it manageable - the terrain isn't savage - and it's free to access, which is rather lovely.

If you're based at one of the nearby caravan parks - Cardigan Camping, Wild Wellingtons, or Woodland Hideaway - this works as a proper morning out without needing to drive far. It fills the gap between seaside visits to Cardigan itself and the larger forest experiences you'll find elsewhere in Ceredigion. Not somewhere you'd plan a holiday around, but genuinely worth an afternoon if you're in the area and fancy something a bit more intimate than the usual Welsh forestry plantations.
