Allington Hill

Standing at just 168 metres, Allington Hill might not sound like much on paper, but this modest Dorset peak punches well above its weight. The climb from Bridport takes about 45 minutes at a steady pace, winding through ancient hedgerows and across sheep-dotted fields that feel properly rural. Views from the top stretch across the Marshwood Vale to the coast - on clear days you can spot the distinctive outline of Golden Cap in the distance.

Walkers will love the network of footpaths that radiate from the summit, connecting to longer routes through the West Dorset countryside. It's not a challenging climb by any means, making it ideal for families with older children who can manage a reasonable uphill slog. The paths can get muddy in wet weather, so proper walking boots are worth it.

Honestly, this isn't a destination hill - more of a pleasant add-on to a day exploring the area around Bridport. If you're staying at one of the holiday parks near West Bay like Parkdean Resorts or Golden Cap Holiday Park, it makes for a decent morning walk before hitting the beach. Allow two hours return from Bridport town centre, longer if you fancy extending the route eastward towards the Mangerton valley.
