Adventure Wonderland

Adventure Wonderland is a theme park sprawled across Dorset's countryside near Ringwood, where families come to burn off energy on rides and attractions spread across the grounds. It's the sort of place where you'll spend a good half-day if the kids are between five and twelve - younger ones might find some rides a bit much, and teenagers will likely sulk within an hour.

The park runs the usual mix: roller coasters, log flumes, go-karts, and gentler rides for smaller children. There's a decent adventure playground element too, which means even if your lot aren't tall enough for the big stuff, they won't be bored senseless. The grounds are spacious enough that you don't feel completely crushed by crowds, though school holidays will be rammed.

If you're staying at Forest Edge Holiday Park or Ashley Heath Caravan Park - both within spitting distance - it makes sense as a rainy day option or when the kids need proper excitement rather than another woodland walk. The admission cost isn't trivial, so check online before you go. Bring cash for the inevitable ice creams and overpriced park food, or pack a picnic if they allow it.

It's not the slick production of Legoland or Chessington, but that's partly the point. There's something refreshingly low-key about it, even if the rides are a bit dated. Worth a visit if you've got young children and need a break from coastal attractions.
