Adur Recreation Ground and Playground

The Adur Recreation Ground sits right on the edge of Lancing, a proper local spot that doesn't pretend to be anything it isn't. You've got open grassland that runs down towards the river, which is lovely for a casual stroll or letting the kids burn off energy on the playground. The whole setup is straightforward - some decent open space, decent equipment, and views across the Adur valley that are worth lingering over if you've got an hour to kill.

Walkers will find the ground useful as a starting point for exploring the river path itself, though the Recreation Ground is really a neighbourhood amenity rather than a destination in its own right. Families with young children will get the most use out of it - the playground keeps them occupied while adults can sit on a bench and actually watch them. It's the kind of place you'd pop to on a lazy afternoon rather than plan your whole day around.

Being so close to Lancing, it's handier than most of the caravan parks in the area - Eastern Sands and The Barn are barely over a mile away - which means it's worth knowing about if you're based at one of those. The grass can get boggy after heavy rain, so go after a dry spell if you can. Free admission and no faffing about with opening hours make it a no-brainer for a quick break from the caravan. On a sunny day it's decent enough; in winter, you'll need a good reason to visit.
