Walking is really what Abbey Lake offers. A circuit takes perhaps an hour at a leisurely pace, depending which way round you go. The surrounding landscape is typical Kent countryside - rolling, green, a bit gentle. Kids might find it pleasant rather than thrilling unless they're the sort who genuinely enjoy spotting ducks and herons. If they're after splash pads and adventure playgrounds, they'll be disappointed.

It works well as part of a broader Dover-area holiday rather than a destination in itself. The free admission and open-access nature means you can pop down whenever the mood strikes - no entry fees or booking nonsense. Worth the detour if you're camped nearby and want some quiet time among the water and wildlife, but don't make a special trip from further afield.
