Abbey Grove

A proper woodland walk just outside Felixstowe, Abbey Grove is the sort of place locals know about but visitors often miss. The forest floor is thick with leaf matter, the canopy does a decent job of blocking out the seaside noise, and there's enough space to actually feel removed from the caravan parks clustered nearby. You won't find manicured paths or signage - it's just trees, undergrowth, and the occasional clearing where light breaks through. Good for a solid hour's walk if you're based at Peewit Caravans or Felixstowe Beach Holiday Park and need a break from the beach. Families with older kids will get more from it than toddlers; there's no playground, no cafe, nothing to anchor you if someone gets restless. The terrain's manageable but not flat, so decent shoes are worth the bother. What makes it work is the proximity to those holiday parks - you can genuinely walk out of your caravan and be among proper forest within twenty minutes. It's free, it's close, and it does what it says on the tin. Don't expect anything grand or heavily marketed. Expect moss, birdsong, and the kind of quiet that makes you remember why you came to Suffolk in the first place.
