There's a small park tucked away on 2nd Lawdley Road just outside Coleford that most tourists sail right past without noticing. It's the sort of place locals know about and visitors stumble upon by accident - all open access, all hours, which is genuinely rare.

What you get is a decent green space with room to stretch your legs, a proper break from driving between the Forest of Dean's bigger attractions. The park itself is straightforward - grass, some paths, the kind of spot where you can kick a ball around or let the kids burn off energy for twenty minutes without paying a penny. Not Instagram-worthy, but honest.

It works well if you're staying at one of the nearby campsites - Greenacres is barely half a mile away, and Bracelands only a couple of miles further on. Perfect for a morning walk before heading to Whitemead Forest Park or the bigger Forest of Dean sites if you want something with more infrastructure. Those with young children will appreciate how accessible it is; older kids might find it a bit limited if you're planning to spend hours here.

Best visited early morning or late afternoon when Coleford's quieter. The 24-hour access is handy if you're staying locally and fancy a quick stroll at odd hours, though there's not much reason to plan a special trip just for this one. It's genuinely useful rather than remarkable - a proper local asset that doesn't pretend to be anything grander.
