Callington

The town centre is pleasant enough but fairly quiet, especially midweek. Sterts Theatre provides surprising cultural punch for such a small place - they put on everything from Shakespeare to contemporary drama in their converted barn venue. Worth checking what's on if you fancy an evening out.

Woodlands like Northpark Wood and Bradstone Wood offer gentle walks through mixed forest, while the archaeological remnants around Lucket Miners' Cottages tell the story of the area's industrial past. The Church of St Nonna is worth a quick look too - typical Cornish granite construction with some interesting medieval features.

Getting here is straightforward enough from Plymouth, about 20 minutes by car via the A390. Liskeard is the nearest sizeable town with proper shopping and rail links. Staying at one of the nearby holiday parks makes perfect sense - you're well positioned for day trips to both Dartmoor and the Cornish coast, while having this slice of authentic Cornwall right on your doorstep.
