Youldon Wood

The woodland paths at Youldon Wood deliver proper walking country without the crowds you'd fight through at more famous Cornish spots. It's a straightforward forest - ancient mixed woodland with decent trails that wind through oak and beech, opening onto views toward Bude when you break through the canopy. The walk itself takes about an hour depending on which routes you pick, and it's genuinely quiet. No queues, no visitor centres, just soil underfoot and trees doing their thing.

Historically this area was logged for shipbuilding timber, though these days it's managed more kindly. Walkers will absolutely get the most from it - the terrain's varied enough to stay interesting without being punishing. Families with older kids will manage fine; younger ones might find it a touch dull if they're not the tree-spotting type. One warning: ground conditions can be boggy after rain, so come prepared with proper boots rather than trainers.

It's free to access and sits nicely within reach of Bude's holiday parks. Atlantic Horizons and Wooda Farm are both close enough that you could combine this with beach time without extra driving. The real value here is escaping the coastal crowds for an afternoon - it won't blow your mind, but it's a solid break from the caravan park if you need fresh air and quiet.
