The big cats here are genuinely impressive - you'll find yourself standing in front of a tiger and realising just how massive they are in the flesh. Yorkshire Wildlife Park sits just outside Doncaster and focuses heavily on conservation rather than the tired old zoo formula, which means the animals actually seem to have proper space and the whole place doesn't feel like you're gawping at prisoners.

You're looking at a good three to four hours here if you're doing it properly. There are red pandas, giraffes, wolves, and a whole section dedicated to big cats that's well done without being gimmicky. The grounds are spread out - bring decent shoes because you'll walk more than you'd expect. Families with younger kids might find the distances a bit much, though there are benches scattered about.

Admission isn't cheap but you do get what you pay for. The park runs events throughout the year, so it's worth checking ahead if you're planning to visit. Best to go midweek if crowds bother you, and aim for late morning when the animals are more active.

If you're staying at Bawtry Caravan Park just down the road, this makes a solid day out without eating the entire holiday. It works well paired with a walk around Doncaster's town centre, though honestly the park itself is the main draw. Not essential, but if you've got animal-loving kids or you're into conservation efforts, it's worth the detour.
