Yorkshire Dales National Park

The Yorkshire Dales isn't one attraction you tick off in an afternoon - it's a proper landscape that demands time and good boots. Rolling limestone valleys, dry stone walls stretching to the horizon, market towns that feel like they've barely changed in a century. You'll find waterfalls tumbling off moorland edges, limestone pavements cracked like ancient skin, caves that go deep enough to echo, and villages where sheep outnumber people by about ten to one.

Walkers will have the time of their lives here. The terrain ranges from gentle riverside strolls to proper hill days - Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough are the famous trio if you fancy bagging peaks, though plenty of folk are just as happy wandering Wensleydale or Ribblesdale without any summit ambitions. History types will find Bronze Age barrows, Roman forts, and industrial heritage tucked into the valleys. Families who can manage a few miles will discover caves at Clapham, stepping stones at Linton, and ice creams in Hawes that actually taste of something.

The park is free to access - you just turn up and start walking. How long? That's entirely up to you. A day scratches the surface. Three days lets you actually breathe. Camp at Stablefell or Hawes Caravan and Motorhome Club just outside town, or push out to Cherish Glamping if you want something with more comfort. Spring brings lambs and wildflowers. Autumn turns the hills gold and copper. Winter is moody and quiet - proper for anyone who wants solitude.
