Ye Olde Cosmic Junkyard

The Cosmic Junkyard is Boomtown Fair's answer to post-apocalyptic theatre - a sprawling installation where art, salvage, and pure chaos collide. Walking through it feels less like visiting an attraction and more like stumbling into someone's beautifully broken fever dream. Rusted vehicles, towering sculptures, LED-lit contraptions, and interactive art pieces cover the space. You're meant to explore, climb on things (within reason), and get properly lost.

It's absolute heaven for creative types, festival-goers, and anyone who thinks conventional museums are a bit dull. Kids aged eight upward will find plenty to scramble over and examine, though younger ones might find it overwhelming. Older teenagers and adults genuinely lose hours in here. The industrial aesthetic and weird storytelling around each corner mean there's always something else to discover.

The Junkyard is part of Boomtown Fair, so you'll need a festival ticket to access it - it's not a standalone paid attraction. You should allow at least two hours, ideally three if you're the type to read all the details and take photos. Summer months are optimal, obviously.

If you're basing yourself at one of the nearby caravan parks around Winchester - the Spinney, Holden Farm, or Hookpit Farm - the Junkyard is close enough for an afternoon visit. Winchester itself is a proper market town with plenty to occupy you before or after. It's the sort of place that sticks with you longer than most tourist spots.
