Yagden Hill

Yagden Hill rises sharply from the Surrey countryside just outside Farnham, offering proper views across the Weald if you're willing to leg it to the top. It's not a dramatic climb - more a steady push through woodland - but the reward at the summit justifies the effort. From up there you can see for miles on a clear day, with the North Downs rolling away in one direction and the greensand ridges breaking up the landscape to the south.

Walkers will get the most from this one. It's the kind of spot where you park near Farnham, spend an hour rambling up and about, then head back down with tired legs and a genuine sense of having earned your afternoon tea. The peak itself isn't dramatic or sudden - more a gradual realisation that you've reached the high point and the view has opened out. Children will enjoy it if they're past the "are we there yet" phase, but there's no visitor infrastructure, no café, no facilities, so you need to be self-sufficient.

It pairs brilliantly with either of the nearby parks. Tilford Woods Lodge Retreat is barely half a mile away, making this an obvious morning walk if you're staying there. Little Cowdray Farm Glamping, a couple of miles off, also positions you perfectly for exploring this corner of Surrey. The woodland around here is genuinely lovely - proper old English woodland, not managed plantations - so even if the weather's mediocre, you won't regret the walk. Allow a good two hours all in, including time to sit and take in the views.
