Wychbury Obelisk

The walk up to Wychbury Obelisk is worth doing just for the views across Worcestershire, but the obelisk itself - a rather austere stone tower built in 1758 - makes the whole thing feel purposeful. You're on high ground out here, proper elevated, and on a clear day you can see for miles. The monument was erected by a local landowner to mark a trigonometrical point, which sounds dry until you realise you're standing on what amounts to an 18th-century surveying tool with a genuine historical function.

It's not a massive operation - no visitor centre, no gift shop, just the obelisk and the Worcestershire countryside spreading out below you. The walk itself takes about 20 minutes from the nearest car park, along woodland paths that are manageable even after rain. This isn't somewhere to spend three hours, but it's exactly the sort of diversion that breaks up a park holiday nicely. History enthusiasts will appreciate the surveying context; walkers get an honest-to-goodness view and some fresh air. Families with older kids will manage fine, though there's not much to keep under-tens engaged once they've reached the top.

If you're staying at Wolverley Camping and Caravanning Club Site just down the road, it's an easy afternoon sortie. Time it for late afternoon when the light softens across the hills. Bring proper boots - the ground gets boggy - and don't expect crowds. That's rather the point.
