Wychbury Hill

The summit of Wychbury Hill sits about 300 metres above Kidderminster, and on a clear day you can see across to Wales from the top. The walk up takes roughly 20 minutes from the car park, which is straightforward enough, though the final stretch gets a bit steep for what's essentially a modest Worcestershire rise. What makes it worth the effort is the Iron Age hill fort that crowns the peak - you can still pick out the defensive earthworks if you know what you're looking at, and there's a proper sense of standing somewhere people fought to control centuries ago.

The actual experience involves a fair bit of open grassland with scattered trees, decent views across the county, and on weekends you'll likely bump into other walkers and local dog owners. It's not dramatic landscape - this isn't the Cotswolds in miniature - but it's solid walking territory. Families with primary-age kids will manage the climb without complaint, though toddlers might find it tedious. For local history types, the hill fort itself is genuinely interesting even if there's not much interpretation on the ground.

Getting here works well as a morning walk if you're based at Wolverley Camping and Caravanning Club Site five or so miles away. Allow a couple of hours return including the summit time. There's no entry fee or facilities to speak of, so bring water. Best visited in autumn or winter when the ground isn't boggy and you can actually see the distant views worth hiking for.
