The wood works brilliantly as a half-day detour from Sunny Side Touring Park - near enough to Crewe that you're not burning half the day on driving, but far enough away that you actually feel like you've escaped. Families with kids who can walk a reasonable distance will get on well here; younger ones might flag after an hour, so bring snacks.

The woodland has a genuinely old feel to it - not the manicured sort you find in managed country estates, but rather something that's been left to do its own thing.
