A converted barn near Sawbridgeworth houses what might be one of the strangest galleries in Hertfordshire - a working space dedicated entirely to wrestlers and wrestling art. It's genuinely peculiar, in the best possible way. The space itself is the draw here: industrial, raw, with proper character. You'll find sculptures, paintings and installations that celebrate the theatricality and athleticism of wrestling culture, all created by artists who seem actually invested in the subject rather than treating it as ironic commentary.

It's not the sort of place you'd stumble upon by accident, which is rather the point. Go if you're curious about contemporary art that takes unexpected subjects seriously, or if you're after something genuinely different from the usual gallery circuit. Wrestling fans will obviously get the most from it, but so will anyone interested in how artists interpret sport and performance.

The barn location means you're out in proper countryside - Sawbridgeworth itself is a small market town with the River Stort running through it, nice enough for a wander but not exactly thrilling. What works better is combining this with a stay at one of the nearby parks. The Wild Retreat at Redricks Lake is 1.9 miles away and genuinely excellent if you want something upmarket and peaceful. Lee Valley Caravan Park at Dobbs Weir is further but cheaper. Toad Abode, closest to 5 miles out, is the standout for families wanting proper glamping.

Allow an hour or so unless you're really into the work. Ring ahead - opening hours aren't always predictable.
