Worminster Sleight

You won't find much fanfare about Worminster Sleight, which is precisely why it's worth the effort from Wells. It's a modest peak, the sort of walk that takes an hour or so depending on fitness and how often you stop for photographs. The views across Somerset's rolling countryside are genuine - proper open vistas that make the climb worthwhile, though I'd be honest: it's not going to blow your mind if you've tackled anything in the Lake District.

The appeal here is quiet and accessible. Families with kids can manage it without drama, though the path gets a bit rough near the top. Walkers appreciate the solitude - you won't be queuing shoulder-to-shoulder like you might at Glastonbury Tor, which is also nearby and frankly gets rammed. If you're staying at Cathedral View Glamping or Wells Touring Park just down the road, this works as a decent morning walk to stretch your legs before breakfast.

Free to access, naturally - there's no gate or toll. Allow a couple of hours return trip if you're taking it slowly. The best time is early morning or late afternoon when the light sits nicely across the landscape and you've got a decent chance of being alone up there.

Doesn't pretend to be something it isn't, but that's its strength. Good for walkers, fine for families wanting fresh air without epic commitment, and genuinely peaceful.
