Woolley Moor

Windswept and raw, Woolley Moor sits just inland from Bude, offering proper Atlantic views without the crowds you'd find down on the beaches. It's essentially moorland with a working farm feel - so don't expect a manicured visitor attraction with interpretive boards and a cafe. What you get instead is space, gorse, and the sort of light that shifts constantly across those northern cliffs.

The walk takes you across open ground with views sweeping toward the coast. On a clear day you can pick out Tintagel way in the distance. It's the kind of place walkers come for - maybe 45 minutes if you're ambling, less if you've got somewhere else to be. The ground can be muddy after rain, and there's wind most days. Families with young children might find it a bit exposed and remote for a full afternoon.

Timing-wise, autumn and spring offer the best balance of weather and light. Summer crowds head elsewhere, which suits this place fine. There's no admission charge because it's working farmland, not a managed attraction - that's both the appeal and the limitation. You're not paying for facilities because there aren't any.
