Walking into Woodleigh Wood feels like stepping back into something properly old. The trees here are established enough that you lose the outside world almost immediately - Devon's moorland vanishes and suddenly it's just you, the conifers, and the kind of quiet that makes you remember why you came to the countryside.

It's a straightforward forest walk rather than a destination with attractions. Bring decent boots because the ground gets boggy, especially after rain. The paths aren't formally maintained, so expect some scrambling over roots and the occasional fallen branch. Most people spend between one and two hours here, though you can stretch it longer if you're the type who stops to listen to birds.

This works best for walkers and families with kids old enough to manage uneven terrain without constant hand-holding. The forest isn't particularly dramatic - no waterfalls or viewpoints - so it's not the kind of place you'd trek to specifically if you were only visiting Devon for a week. But if you're based at one of the camping parks near South Brent - Lower Terawhiti Farm or Wilton Farm are nearby - it makes a proper morning out.

The best time is late spring when the light comes through differently and the undergrowth isn't utterly choking the path. Admission should be free, though it's worth checking locally in South Brent if there are any seasonal closures. It's a decent option if the moors feel crowded, though honestly, it's the kind of place you visit because it's there, not because it's unmissable.
