Woodland walk

The woodland here is genuinely lovely - proper old-growth stuff with enough shade to keep things cool even on a warm day. You're walking through the kind of trees that make you remember why people bang on about forests. The paths are well-maintained without feeling over-engineered, which is refreshing.

It's ideal for anyone who just wants to get out of the car and stretch their legs without the pressure of "doing" something. Families with young kids will manage fine on the main routes, though prams would be a struggle on the narrower bits. History buffs and wildlife spotters will find genuine interest here - there's real biodiversity if you know what to look for. Allow a solid hour minimum if you're actually walking rather than just strolling.

Doncaster sits nearby, so it's easy enough to reach. The real appeal is combining this with a longer park-based holiday - Waterfront Country Park is just a couple of miles away, and Misterton Holiday Park a bit further out. Both give you that base camp setup where you can do day walks without the faff of moving accommodation.

Free to access as far as these things go, with no mention of entry fees. Go when it's not raining, obviously - muddy woodland is woodland with a different character entirely. Not dramatic or Instagram-worthy, but genuinely restorative. That matters more than you'd think.
