The leisure centre sits on the outskirts of Doncaster, a functional modern facility that's far more useful than exciting. Inside you'll find a proper swimming pool, a gym, and a sports hall - the sort of place locals actually use rather than tourists queue for. It's decent if you're after a swim during a park holiday, but don't expect anything architectural or Instagram-worthy.

Families with young kids will get the most from the pool sessions, especially if the nearby holiday parks - Waterfront Country Park and Misterton Holiday Park are both within five miles - have gym access agreements. The facilities are clean and well-maintained, though it feels like every other leisure centre you've seen. A work-out takes an hour, the pool another hour if you're not rushing.

It's worth knowing that admission isn't free and you'll need to check current opening hours before dragging the family along. In truth, this is the sort of place you visit because the weather's turned miserable and you've got restless kids, not because it's a destination in its own right. If you're based at Waterfront Country Park especially, it's convenient enough. But if you're planning a holiday around Doncaster's attractions, there are better things to do with your time.
