Woodend Barn Arts Centre

Woodend Barn sits just outside Banchory, a converted farm building that's been given new life as an arts centre. It's the kind of place where local artists show their work alongside touring exhibitions, and the setting itself - all exposed stone and rural quiet - makes it worth a look even if contemporary art isn't usually your thing.

You'll find paintings, sculptures, installations, and craft work rotating through the main gallery space. The barn's original character remains intact, which means high ceilings, natural light flooding through big windows, and none of that sterile white-cube gallery feeling. It's intimate rather than grand, and that works in its favour. A proper afternoon's browse takes about 90 minutes, though you could dash round in half that if time's tight.

This is ideal for anyone who values independent galleries and the chance to buy directly from makers. Families with older kids will manage fine, though younger ones might get restless - there's not a huge amount of interactive stuff. The rural location makes it a worthwhile detour if you're based at Silverbank or Banchory Lodge caravan parks, both excellent sites just down the road.
