Wooden Henge

Near Tayport, an artist has constructed something between a sculpture park and a wooden cathedral - Wooden Henge. It's exactly what it sounds like: massive wooden structures arranged in a landscape setting, all made from reclaimed timber and driftwood. Walking through it feels oddly meditative. The pieces are monumental enough to command respect but approachable enough that kids won't get bored trying to clamber on them.

There's no pretension here. It's the work of someone who clearly loves wood and land art in equal measure, and you can sense that in every installation. The site changes with the seasons - what looks dramatic in autumn mist becomes almost spiritual in winter light. Allow a good hour to wander through properly; this isn't a quick tick-off. You'll want to photograph it, sit with it, let it settle.

Families with children from about seven onwards will get the most from it. Younger kids might just see sticks. Adults who appreciate sculpture or environmental art will find it genuinely moving. Walkers should slot it into a longer Fife outing rather than make it a destination on its own.

It's only a short drive from Tayport Links Caravan Park and Larick Campsite, both excellent bases for exploring this corner of Fife & Tayside.
