Wooden dinosaur

A life-sized wooden dinosaur stands rather incongruously in the Northamptonshire countryside near Market Harborough, and it's the sort of thing that stops you in your tracks on a country drive. This isn't some heritage museum piece - it's a proper roadside oddity that's become a local landmark, carved with genuine craft and detail. Kids absolutely lose their minds when they spot it, and honestly, it's worth a quick stop if you're passing through the area.

The dinosaur itself is impressively tall and clearly the work of someone who knew their way around a chisel. It makes for decent photos, the sort of thing you'd post online with a caption like "found this in the middle of nowhere". The setting is decidedly rural and windswept - no gift shop, no cafe, just the sculpture and the fields around it.

If you're based at any of the nearby parks - Buttercup Meadow is closest at less than four miles away, or you could stay at Hidden Hideaway Glamping or Valley View Escapes a bit further out - this makes for a five-minute detour that breaks up a day of exploring. It's free, takes about ten minutes to have a proper look and take photos, and works well as a novelty stop rather than a destination in itself.

Go in decent light if you can, as the wood grain shows up better in natural daylight. Winter visits mean fewer crowds of other curious tourists, though you'll want wellies if it's been wet.
