Wolfton Clump

Wolfton Clump is a proper woodland walk just outside Dorchester, the sort of place locals know but visitors often miss. It's not dramatic - no viewpoints or ancient monuments - just a dense forest block where you can lose yourself for an hour or two among the trees. The paths wind through mixed woodland, quiet and peaceful, with enough variety that it never feels dull even on a short visit.

This is ideal for families wanting to tire out restless kids without needing a destination at the end. Walkers after a straightforward forest ramble will appreciate the well-maintained trails, though don't expect dramatic scenery. History types should look elsewhere. What you get is woodland, fresh air, and the kind of calm that's hard to find near towns.

There's no entrance fee or facilities that I'm aware of, so turn up whenever suits you. Allow 45 minutes to two hours depending on which paths you take. Early morning or late afternoon is when the forest feels best - fewer people, better light filtering through the canopy.

If you're staying at Green Valley Yurts just down the road, it's an easy detour on foot or a short drive. Giants Head Caravan Park and Parkdean Resorts Warmwell are also within reasonable distance. It's the sort of walk that fits nicely into a lazy morning before heading elsewhere - not a headline attraction in itself, but a decent way to spend time if you're already in the area.
