Wolford Wood

Walking into Wolford Wood feels like stepping back in time. This sprawling Gloucestershire forest sits just outside Moreton-in-Marsh and offers proper woodland rambling without the tourist crush you'll find at bigger attractions in the Cotswolds.

The wood itself is a mix of ancient trees and managed forestry, with decent paths threading through. You'll find bluebells in spring if you time it right, and the canopy gets thick enough in summer that it's genuinely cool on hot days. Bring proper walking boots though - it can be muddy, especially after rain, and there's no fancy infrastructure here. This is the real deal: just you, the trees, and the occasional dog walker.

It's ideal for families with older kids or anyone after a couple of hours of proper woodland peace. You won't find benches, cafés, or visitor centres, so come prepared. Allow two to three hours for a decent circuit, depending on your pace and how many dead-ends you fancy exploring.
