The Talbot

The Talbot sits right in the heart of Moreton-in-Marsh, a proper coaching inn that's been standing since medieval times. It's one of those places where you can actually feel the weight of centuries - the building itself is the attraction, really. Stone walls, timber framing, the sort of architecture that makes you understand why the Cotswolds draw millions of visitors every year.

You'll walk past it, stop, and think about all the travellers who've sheltered here over the last 500 years. Armies, merchants, ordinary folk heading between Worcester and London. That's the appeal - it's genuinely old, genuinely rooted in the landscape. Not everything needs a gift shop or an entry fee to be worth your time.

Historically minded types will get the most from this. Children might appreciate spotting the date stones and guessing how old things are, though they won't want to linger long. It's a five-minute stop rather than a destination, but a proper one.

Moreton-in-Marsh itself is walkable and worth an afternoon - good independent shops, decent pubs, and you're bang in Cotswolds territory. The glamping parks nearby (Cotswolds Meadow and Bluewood Lodges are both excellent) make ideal bases for exploring the area. The Talbot works brilliantly as part of a wider wander through the town rather than a standalone visit. Combine it with the market square and the High Street for a proper sense of what Moreton's about.
