Wolferton Bank

The woodland around Wolferton Bank, just outside Sandringham, is the sort of place you stumble upon rather than plan for. It's a proper Norfolk forest - the kind with dark soil underfoot, low-hanging branches, and the occasional moment where you genuinely can't hear anything but your own footsteps.

The walk itself is straightforward enough. You're moving through dense woodland with tracks that are well-trodden but never feel crowded. The tree coverage is thick enough that even on drizzly days - and this is Norfolk, so there will be drizzly days - you stay relatively dry. It's intimate woodland rather than dramatic, which suits the Norfolk landscape perfectly.

This works best for walkers who like a proper forest immersion without needing views or tea shops at the end. If you've got kids expecting adventure playgrounds and ice cream vans, they'll probably get bored. But if you're the type who walks to clear your head, it does the job. Allow 45 minutes to an hour depending on how far you venture.

It slots nicely into a Sandringham holiday - the Sandringham Camping and Caravanning Club Site is less than a mile away, and Pinecones is barely further. You can walk it in the morning, sort out a picnic, then head to Sandringham House later if the mood takes you. It's the sort of walk that makes sense as part of a wider explore rather than a destination in itself.
