Withial Combe Nature Reserve

Withial Combe is a modest nature reserve tucked into the Somerset countryside near Glastonbury, the sort of place you'd miss entirely if you weren't looking for it. Walk through and you'll find yourself in a proper slice of local habitat - woodland, scrubland, and open ground where birds nest and wildflowers do their thing across the seasons. It's not a dramatic landscape, nothing that'll take your breath away, but that's rather the point.

The reserve works best for serious nature watchers and anyone wanting a quiet woodland walk without the crowds you'd get at bigger attractions. If you've got kids expecting adventure playgrounds or viewpoints, they'll be bored within twenty minutes. But for adults who actually enjoy looking at things - spotting birds, identifying plants, getting genuinely lost in a patch of English countryside - it's time well spent.

I'd allow an hour, maybe ninety minutes if you're the type to stop and study things properly. The nearest proper base would be Glastonbury itself, which gives you access to the town's spiritual circuit and decent cafes when you've finished here. If you're camping at one of the local parks - Tall Trees Glamping is closest at under two miles - you could easily fit this in as a morning outing before heading into town.
