Witham Duck Pond

The Duck Pond sits right in the middle of Witham, a quiet spot that catches you off guard if you're just passing through town. It's genuinely lovely - proper still water with reeds round the edges, ducks doing their thing, the occasional heron if you're lucky. You can walk round it easily enough, takes maybe twenty minutes if you're not dawdling, longer if you want to sit on one of the benches and actually watch the water.

It's the sort of place families with young kids will appreciate for half an hour or so - feeding ducks still works for that age group, and it's free. Birdwatchers might find something worth their while depending on the season. The real value though is how close it is to Maldon, which means you can tick it off as a quick stop between other things rather than planning your day round it.

If you're based at Mill Beach Seaside Resort or Osea Leisure Park - both decent enough about six miles away - this is genuinely useful for a low-key morning out. Witham itself is nothing special, but the pond breaks up the suburban feel. Go early if weather's good, before it gets too busy, though honestly it never seems to get properly rammed. Worth fifteen minutes of your time if you're in the area, nothing more.
