Witchock Loch

The water at Witchock Loch sits dark and still, ringed by rough moorland that slopes up towards the Cairngorms. It's a proper Highland setting - the sort of place where the light changes every ten minutes and you'll see more red grouse than people.

This is a small loch near Aboyne, and honestly, it's best approached as part of a walking day rather than a destination in itself. The loch works well for a circular route through the surrounding hills, and the moorland offers decent views south towards the Deeside landscape. Stay at either Tarland Camping & Caravanning Club Site or Cairngorms Glamping & Campsite - both are within a few miles and well-positioned for exploring this part of Deeside. Neither is particularly close to other major attractions, so you'll want to be here for the walking itself.
