Windsor Parish Church of St John the Baptist

The church sits right in Windsor's heart, and it's proper worth a look if you're passing through. St John the Baptist has been here since medieval times, though what you see now is largely Victorian restoration - which means the interior is bright and well-kept rather than dark and dusty. The stone work outside catches the light nicely, especially the tower, and there's a genuine sense of age about the place without feeling oppressively solemn.

Inside, it's straightforward and honest rather than grand. You'll find decent stained glass, some interesting monuments if you like that sort of thing, and enough space to wander about without feeling cramped. Where it works best is as part of a Windsor wander - combine it with a riverside walk or a poke around the town's shops, then head back to base at Queens Acre or Amerden if you're parked up nearby.
