Wildlife Centre

The Wildlife Centre sits just outside Great Yarmouth, offering a proper look at Norfolk's native creatures in their own habitats. You'll spend anything from two to four hours here depending on how keen you are. Families with younger children do well - there's enough activity to keep them engaged, though it's not a high-octane theme park sort of day out. Walkers and nature enthusiasts get real value too, especially if you're trying to clock Norfolk's birdlife without spending hours with binoculars in a hide.

The Centre works particularly well as part of a longer Norfolk Broads week. If you're based at Norfolk Broads Caravan and Motorhome Club Campsite or Clippesby Hall nearby, it's an easy half-day addition when the weather turns a bit rough for water-based activities. The flat Norfolk terrain means even slightly older kids can manage it without complaint, and it breaks up the repetitive schedule of another canal walk.

Admission details aren't guaranteed, so ring ahead - opening hours shift seasonally, which catches people out. Go mid-week if you can; weekends pull coach parties from the coast.
